Employee Spotlight: Intern Steven Asmus
I would love to introduce myself, my name is Steven Asmus. I am a marketing and business major with a minor in brewing and fermentation at Augustana University. I’m big into longboarding, I’m the Social Media Lead for Augustana Brewing and Fermentation Club, a video game enthusiast, and a competitive swimmer for the Augustana Men’s Swim and Dive team. My time with Fernson gave me the opportunity to work with their Brand Manager, Cole Casper, and their phenomenal brew team!
Summer Recap
During my time at Fernson, I was humbled to be involved with different types of media and exploring the creative process. Following Cole, I learned that brand marketing consists of very large ideas, but also minute details. These could be specific colors, editing techniques, and even photo composition.
In marketing terms, engagement or capturing your audience through sharing meaningful ideas and information is one of the most important goals. What makes people want to click, like, and share? How much and how often should we post to not saturate our own business’s social media? Cole helped me answer these challenging questions. Although Marketing is a complicated profession, understanding what is trending and where your business fits is always important to consider. To Cole, being disciplined with your business model and branding is much more important than following a short term fad.
Working on the release of Prairie Sun
Woking on Prairie Sun was a highlight of my time at Fernson. Helping with the final touches of Prairie Sun, like the video release of the beer, was an honor. Coming out with creative ideas for the release of Prairie Sun was fantastic, just like the beer itself. It was a phenomenal effort from the brew team, they really put their heart into this release. If you have not checked out Prairie Sun, I highly recommend giving it a taste! It’s worth it, especially if you pair it with your favorite Wagoo burger at Fernson Downtown!
Final Thoughts
I’m honored to be a part of the Fernson story, even if it was just for the summer. It has been a wonderful experience getting to know the team and to see what goes on with a fantastic local brewery in Sioux Falls. I want to thank Fernson for giving me the opportunity to learn and grow; I also want to thank the people I worked with for their support, cheers!
